Document Design taught me a lot about design layout and how to create a professional looking piece of work. One of the most important pieces of writing to come out of the class was my resume. I had been in the workforce for the past 18 years and thought I had a handle on my resume. I learned that time had passed my resume by and I needed to bring it current to today’s standards. A little thicker paper with texture and using a second color helped to make my resume pop. The thought of using two colored fonts on a resume had eluded me until this class. The job market is tough and any edge can help when all the boss has is a piece of paper to represent you. Being a writing major I felt my resume had to be the best clean and professional because this falls into my field of expertise. After several revisions, I felt I finally had something I could be proud of that represented me.

Another essay I created in the class was on Political Correctness. Graphics, photos, colors, and style were all taken into consideration with the creation of this piece. In the end, the essay was formatted into a booklet that could be put on display in the library or any other venue. It was designed to look friendly and inviting without being intimidating to read. Simplicity can take a lot more work than I realized. A lot of effort was made to have a pamphlet style paper look inviting and within the first few sentences make you want to keep reading. The version I have included here is a PDF file for ease of viewing.
