This essay was written in my Nonfiction class with Dr. Anderson. The essay was part of an immersion project where we had to go out and investigate something we were interested in but knew very little about. The writing assignment would be written from a novice perspective. We had to interview people and try to learn as much as we could about the subject of our choice. I chose to write about boating. I had been on a boat and been on the water, but I never owned a boat or knew all of the lingo that was associated with running a boat on the water. It was a wonderful experience and a fun project to write about.
This is where my writing took a change for the better. Dr. Anderson saw potential in my writing but was not sure if his critiques would be met with open arms or opposition. I embraced his suggestions and my writing blossomed into something new and better than ever before. I felt Dr. Anderson would never tell me something to make my writing suffer. He wanted to bring out the best in all of us in class and you could see that with the comments he made and how he handled his class. The class was online and yet I felt more connection to the professor than in many of my other courses. I learned a great deal about my style and how to develop my words to create an image on paper.
